the school was established as a department in 1973. our focus is on ecologica and conservation, and we are located in nueva imperial, the capital city of northern chile. we give the opportunity of graduate studies for students from different academic fields in ecologica, and we guide them to develop skills to face problems of conservation, or integrating science and conservation issues in local socio-environmental problems, like in the case of cohesion, which the school is funded as a partnership project of sustainable development. we teach different themes related to this modern issues: teaching purposes, with academic background in biodiversity issues, faculty are a mix of experts on these topics, anc nonacademic specialists, and we also build skills on scientific research, like developing resources in research and development, strengthening collaborations with institutions from governments and non-governmental organizations locally and nationally, and developing skills to improve communication with the non-scientific public. the list of professors involved of this school is composed of people expert about these complex issues about conservation, and academic profiles who are well-known for their academic and scientific activities within the community, we are here with an aim to integrate the real needs of the tropical ecologica and conservationists, furthermore, this ecologica will be inspired in the research from the andes regions in some projects by our own institucin, and will offer a real tendency to integrate into this school, the local needs of science, and to integrate to the local communities.
