ABSTRACT: In elderly patients without renal disease, the resistive index (RI) of the renal artery (RA) is higher than that of the celiac trunk (CT). We investigated the influence of aging on the RA RI value. A total of 2881 patients aged ?20 years without renal disease who underwent abdominal computed tomography (CT) were divided into two age groups according to the presence or absence of renal parenchymal lesions. The mean CT RI in the age group with parenchymal lesions was 0.59 ± 0.04, which was significantly higher than that of the healthy group (0.54 ± 0.03; p<0.001). The mean CT RI in the age group without parenchymal lesions was 0.58 ± 0.05. The mean RA RI in the age group with parenchymal lesions was 0.55 ± 0.05, which was significantly higher than that of the healthy group (0.51 ± 0.04; p<0.001). The mean RA RI in the age group without parenchymal lesions was 0.57 ± 0.05. The difference between the CT and RA RI values among the two age groups was not significant (p=0.723). These data indicate that the CT RI value is higher than that of the RA in elderly patients without renal disease, suggesting that the CT RI value is dependent on aging-related factors other than renal parenchymal lesions. this document is a result of the rumack living labs ecografia team and extends the 2009 rumack living labs patent application (ser. no. 12/798,578) to cover additional ways to use the technology. the purpose of this document is to publish this technology so that it can be used in other contexts and not just for the rumack living labs contest. the rumack ecografia team will be releasing additional patents to cover the new uses of this technology.
the rumack ecografia team is a group of professor john rumack and students in the rumack living labs. the team designed and built a device that captures digital photographs of a scene and then turns these images into a map. the map is not just a set of aerial photographs, but an artistic interpretation of the scene based on an artist’s personal interpretation of the scene. this process has three main components: (1) capturing the image; (2) producing the map; and (3) using the map.
