New Winkawaks 162 Fullset Roms
13. this message says that when you have selected a “recommended” file the necessary bytes to download are written to the update_files.txt file. so please check this file and look at the hashes. if they are different you might want to re-select a chd and re-check the hashes. the message also says that the compiler states that there were no problems. that is totally wrong as it only tells what clrmamepro says. you actually have to check the hashes and i suggest you to do that with a winmdb query on a newly extracted update_files. because this file might be only a copy of the original one! winmdb allows you to check for several different game files and you just need to paste the hashes of the bytes you are interested in. you just click on the “fetch” button and there it goes. this is really important especially with the f4000 while clrmamepro will simply ignore the mame version you want to build and try to build a f4000 romset. that can result in a mismatched romset. clrmamepro also suggests you to extract the files with a windows tool like 7zip or winrar. if you do not have these tools installed you can use a mac tool called aptuzip to extract the files. the aptuzip installation isnt as big as winmdb.
14. clrmamepro installed an application called dedup . when you first start it you have to setup where to put your backups. if you select the backup folder of the update_files.txt file this will be the folder where the backups will be. however if you want to add new chds for another romset, the backup folder will not be overwritten (only the rompaths will be overwritten). just leave it at default. it should work.
although i am still a newbie with mame i am able to run a large variety of games, thanks to the awesome programs retroarch and sherlock. i run two major projects, the first being to (re)construct all fullset romsets, the second is to maintain complete lists of samples, but until the recent upgrade to.32 i had a complete snes fullset list. this included the lastest re-edit of snesfullset complete with complete chds, merged correctly, and runs flawlessly under retroarch.
the current list has now superseded a similar list for the earlier game winkeyawaks version of nes roms, and it has since been update into a working list of relatively all new nes games that run under retroarch. i can see this list of games as a more complete collection of nes games, this is not the case of the earlier list, which was built for snes games. unlike the batocera romset, the newer fullset does not contain all single roms of a game, but includes a selection of them selected by the author of the fullset.
these are currently the most working games that i have been able to get working under retroarch. i have tried all four nes controllers, and have been able to get over 20 games working, without any problems. the only problems that i have had are due to my controller, which is a usb-micro-a-to-micro-b cable (which i found on ebay for only a few euros). mame 0.228 seems to have some issues with its scancode emulation and i usually have to change some scancodes to work, but most of the roms can be run with no problems.
to find the correct scancodes for your controller i have managed to make a small calculator. you can get my romset and this calculator from my bitbucket repo. i also have a list of alternate scancodes if you want some additional help.
