The storyline of Kartoos is based on a bomb blast in 1993 in Mumbai that claimed over 200 lives, in the neighbouring city of Thane. The movie explores the intersecting lives of three Mumbai-based gangsters and petty criminals, who find themselves entangled in a web of crimes, with unforeseen consequences. Kartoos, under Akash Bilal Mukherji, is a gangster that runs a local liquor shop, with his father and fellow gang member Papa Chu (Dharam Mohan). Shortly after, Vicky (Sanjay Dutt), a gangster, comes to meet Akash to settle a gambling debt. Akash is initially reluctant to go through with the meeting, but once Vicky meets his father, Papa Chu, the reluctant duo strike up a deal; if Vicky’s father is dead by midnight, Akash will turn Vicky over to the police. Vicky agrees, and the two set off to have dinner with Alok (Shakti Kapoor). Meanwhile, in a move intended to extort money from Akash, Vicky’s associates, Gurtej (Gulshan Grover) and Yakub (Jaspal Bhatti), drill a hole in the wall of Akash’s shop and steal his entire stock of liquor, forcing him to sell it on the black market. The greedy Vicky loses his temper, and begins beating up a passerby, creating a ruckus, which is discovered by Akash, Vicky, Papa Chu and Alok. In a futile attempt to save himself from the constant pressure, Akash agrees to pay out the gambling debt owed by Vicky. Upon arriving at his home, Vicky’s father is murdered by Papa Chu and his men, though the police find no evidence to implicate them. Unbeknownst to Akash and Papa Chu, this is all part of a plan that Akash had concocted, and is actually in cahoots with Vicky. Later, Vicky’s father’s thugs kill Yakub, and blackmail Akash to return the money he had paid Vicky’s father and so, he goes to a liquor shop and asks Akash to return it. Akash, however, has already hidden the money, and consequently convinces Vicky’s father, that his friend and father has cheated him, and forces him to go to the police. Upon seeing Vicky’s father’s dead body, Akash burns it all with a pyre built by him, and pretends to get frightened as a diversion. A few hours later, Akash finds Vicky having dinner with his family, and Papa Chu is also invited. During dinner, Vicky tricks Akash into thinking he is about to hand him over to the police, which gives Akash the opportunity to gun Papa Chu and escape, leading to his arrest.

A few years back, I was at a website that had an audio segment in which they were touting a very powerful tool for getting things done. It was a tool, but only with the right mindset and training. These people were supposed to be able to get a person everything they wanted done. So they were “The Lottery People” because everyone wanted one. And they saw the graph in the e-marketing section of the website that said that the people who wanted them lived all over the globe. So they thought, “Well, that would mean that we could represent everyone.” They had a website for Lottery People, and they even had a Buy 1 Get 1 Free coupon and little red balloons to symbolize the fact that everyone was lucky, and the more you bought, the more you got.
Now, I’m not suggesting that you change the strategy (want, need, want, need, want), but what you may want to consider is how you are going to spend the time you gain.
The Lottery People are great people to sign up. Actually, they are the only ones who are really going to sign up for anything. They are going to invest the time and energy. But if that’s what you get in return, you have to get the most out of the situation.
You may be tempted to think, “I can get 50 of them in to my dealership and that will just give me a number.” I’ve heard quite a few opinions on this: You can’t get 50. It is not the way to do it. You have to train them and work with them.
They have to feel that it will be worth their time. They have to perceive the potential value of your model. You have to help them develop their skills and provide adequate training. You have to be able to discern who has what it takes. So, just because you reach out to 50 people, doesn’t mean it will be that many people who take action. And it may not be 50 at all.
You could produce a DVD or publish a weekly newsletter that goes out to 50 people, and you need to start by one, and have a single dealership that provides training.
